December Newsletter

Counseling Topics:
This month, our whole group guidance lesson is on being generous.   We are learning what it means to be generous. When we do things to help people because we want to, we are being generous.

We are writing, illustrating, and sharing about how we have been or could be generous to others.

We can be kind to others by making a card, giving  flowers, reading a book, smiling, cleaning up, doing a favor, and/or saving money for a special cause.

Ask your child about ways they can be generous to others and let them share with you.

Monthly Character Word Focus:
Generosity-kindness: willingness to give money, help, or time freely.  Talk to your child about being generous.  Each student will have an opportunity to be generous by sending in new and/or gently worn winter items (coats, jackets, mittens and /or gloves) during the week of December 7-14.   The focus of the campaign is to provide winter items to those in need in our community and surrounding communities as the winter season approaches.  All donations will be sent to the One Coat Campaign.

Feel free to contact me any time
with questions and/or comments.  I will do whatever I can to help your child have a positive experience at AEEC.

September Newsletter

Counselor's Topics
For the month of September, we will be reading Miss Nelson is Missing.  We are learning about the importance of good listening tips.  Good listening tips include the following: sit quietly, sit still, hands in lap, look at speaker,  listen to speaker, and raise hand and wait patiently for your turn.
In order to learn,  you must be able to listen and focus on what the speaker is saying and doing.
The students will also be learning about who I am and what a counselor does.

Character Education Focus:
The character word for the month of September is Respect.  Please remind your child to respect others by treating them the way they would want to be treated.

A boy and a girl from each of the five pod communities serve as our Tiger Cub Ambassadors.   Our school ambassadors are asked to greet and welcome special guests to our school throughout the school year.  A special school ambassador medallion and school beret are provided by the school for each of the ambassadors to wear on these special occasions.
